Minimal, sporty, compact and contemporary hotel design

This sums up the Cube Hotels that nestle on top of some of the popular holiday regions in the Alps in Austria and Switzerland. There are 3 Cube hotels so far, two in Austria and one in Switzerland, of which the Cube Hotel in the region of Biberwier Lermoos municipalities of Austria, is the latest addition in July 2007. Cube Hotel is a unique mountain, leisure and holiday experience throughout the whole year.

The mantra here is a blend of sports, entertainment and design. Sought by the global and socially active crowd that is young in age and at heart, these hotels optimise on living beyond the hotel room through its design and architecture as well. These hotels are always directly next to the base station of the local ski lift. So be it summer or winter, the Cube hotels offer the sports enthusiasts, starting points for several sporting options like skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, hiking and climbing, making the Cube the ‘ideal’ base.

Link to architecture

Literally a cube from the outside, the hotel’s architecture blends in harmoniously into the surrounding landscape. The sporting activities associated with the hotel are not limited to the exteriors alone but extend to its interiors as well. Contemporary in its design, the hotel’s architecture integrates ramps in its central atrium, offering one the choice of biking down the corridors till the hotel room door. It’s open interior design allows for extensive and innovative storage for sports gear like skis, cycles and snowboards. The hotel room is comfortable and minimal as well. The hotel’s architecture, through its open planning and colours, stresses on ‘life outside the room’. Encouraging socialising are the bar and lounge spaces in the central atrium that are crafted with the same design sensitivity. A community feel is all prevailing here.

Gateways

The designers of the Cube Hotel sought inspiration from transportation vehicles like planes, trains and boats while designing hotel rooms that did not feel compromised due to limited space. The Cube Hotel’s official website has this to say, “CUBE BIBERWIER-LERMOOS offers a unique combination of design and functionality. Additional living space is created outside the rooms because of the open and urbane loft-like architecture and the Chill Out Lounges on each floor. The individual floors are connected with each other by means of Gateways - practical ramps which facilitate the transport of your sports equipment. Illuminated columns, glass, concrete, plasma screens and designer furniture, create a stylish ambience. The innovative colour and light concept produces a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.”

The rooms

With a total of 80 rooms, 275 beds in total, available in various combinations, the hotel rooms are comfortably equipped with shower and separate toilet, flat screen TV and wardrobe, under-the-bed storage box for luggage, a locker for valuables and a separate room to dry your clothes and to store your equipment. At Cube Biberwier -Lermoos, lounges are present on every floor with video walls and open fireplace in the lobby. Indoor-climbing wall and Video Games wall are some of its other attractions. Cube has its own in-house club too. With an outlook beyond the box, the Cube hotels are an ideal destination for the perfect combination of sports, adventure and comfort.
